What to Do During and After Your Teeth Whitening?
1. Our Recommendations During Your Teeth Whitening

Teeth Whitening “Premium” and “At Home”

  • Brush your teeth thoroughly and floss every evening before wearing the trays
  • Use a toothpaste specifically designed for sensitive teeth
  • You can also supplement with a mouthwash for sensitivity or a remineralizing cream like MI Paste, available at our clinics
  • Apply the whitening product inside the trays with precision
  • The amount applied should be minimal (no more than a pinhead)
  • Carefully insert the trays ensuring they fit snugly
  • Remove any excess product with a cotton swab
  • Refrain from eating or drinking once the trays are inserted to avoid swallowing the product
  • Avoid smoking throughout the treatment duration
  • Allow the product to work for _______ minutes as directed by your dental hygienist or dentist
  • To remove the trays, start from the back teeth and then proceed to the front to prevent distortion
  • If discomfort wakes you up, remove the trays and rinse your mouth thoroughly (brushing is not mandatory)
  • Every morning, remove the trays, rinse with water or fluoride mouthwash, or gently brush your teeth
  • Clean the trays with soapy water and a soft-bristled brush, preferably a hydrosonic brush, avoiding hot water which can deform the trays
  • Air-dry the trays before storing them, ensuring they are completely dry before placing them back in their case

Reminder:

  • Whitening follows a cumulative dosing rule, so it’s crucial to maintain uninterrupted treatment for 10 to 21 consecutive days.
  • A break of 3 to 4 days resets the treatment progress. Choose a period that suits you best.
  • If sudden sensitivity occurs, stop the treatment immediately. Apply Emofluor Desensgel and massage the sensitive area for 30 seconds.
  • Pay attention to the amount of gel applied to avoid gum discoloration. Whitish discolorations are normal and will fade throughout the day.
  • Small, whiter spots may appear due to your teeth’s composition, which will gradually blend over time. However, if spots were present before whitening, they may become even whiter. Remineralizing creams like tooth mousse or MI paste are recommended in such cases.

“In-Clinic” Teeth Whitening and “Express Brightening”

If your dental hygienist performed your whitening treatment in the clinic, you can skip directly to point 2: “Post-Whitening Recommendations.”

2. Post-Whitening Recommendations

Congratulations!

You’ve decided to brighten your smile. Whether it’s through our express brightening, at-home whitening, in-clinic whitening, or premium whitening, it’s recommended to follow these tips to maintain your dental whiteness:

  • Brush your teeth after every meal using a gentle, non-abrasive toothpaste. At the very least, rinse your mouth with water after meals to reduce acids or sugars in your mouth.
  • Use a straw to limit direct contact of beverages with your teeth.
  • Chew sugar-free, colorless gum to stimulate saliva and prevent deposits.
  • Avoid citrus fruits (lemons) or any acidic food or beverage that could make your teeth more sensitive.
  • Opt for water over colored beverages.

List of foods and drinks to avoid:

  • Beverages: coffee, tea, cola, red wine, colored sodas, colored fruit juices…
  • Foods: colored sauces (tomato, pesto, soy), colored vegetables (beets, spinach, carrots…), colored berries and red fruits, condiments (Tabasco, mustard…), citrus fruits (lemons, oranges…), and especially spices! (turmeric, paprika, curry…).
  • Others: tobacco, colored candies, coloring medications (iron) or colored mouthwashes (especially those containing chlorhexidine, tin fluoride, for example, Emofluor gel…

Don’t forget: Sensitivities in the teeth or gums may occur; this is common and normal. Emofluor Desensgel immediately relieves pain. Inform your dentist or hygienist if they persist.
